When I was, you were not; now you are, and I am not. The wind rages past all reach and the ocean runs with waves, and in the water there is only water. Mādhau, what is there to say? The delusion goes like this: whatever you take a thing to be, it is not that. *(refrain)* One king fell asleep on his throne and in the dream became a beggar. The kingdom was there untouched, but parted from it he suffered. That has been my own state. It is the old business of the rope and the snake; now something of the secret has been shown me. Like the countless bracelets men go astray over; and now that I would speak, the saying will not come. One in all, one master in the many, and it is he who tastes life in every vessel. Says Ravidās, he is nearer than my own hand, and what happens happens of itself.
