In plain words
Men of the city, my caste is known far and wide: I am a cobbler. In my heart I tell over the qualities of Rām and Gōbind. *(refrain)* Take the water of the Surasarī and make liquor of it: the saints will not drink it. Liquor is unclean, and so is any other water; but once it mingles with the Surasarī it is other no longer. The palmyra is counted unclean, and so they count the paper they make from it. But write the Bhāgavat of bhagati on that paper, and it is worshipped and people bow down before it. My caste cuts the hide and stitches it and carries away the dead cattle, day after day, all round Banaras. Now the chief Brahmins bow flat before that same man. Ravidās your servant shelters in your Name. *Surasarī*, the river of the gods, the Gaṅgā.
