Born from Brahmā's Eye

When Brahmā set out to fill the world, sons were born from his body to carry on his work: Marīci from his mind, Atri from his eye, Aṅgiras from his mouth, Pulastya from his ears, Pulaha from his navel, and others besides. Atri was one of those ten sages.

Kardama the sage and his wife Devahūti had nine daughters, and Kardama gave them in marriage to the sages. Kalā he gave to Marīci, and Anasūyā he gave to Atri.
