The Story Told to a King
Long afterwards a brahmin told this story to the king of Sauvīra. The king's steward had set the brahmin to carry the king's palanquin, not knowing who he was; when the king heard him speak of the highest truth, he got down, took hold of his feet and asked to be taught. The brahmin told him of Ṛbhu and Nidāgha so that the king too should see his own self in all. As the one sky is seen as white and blue and many colours, the brahmin said, so the one Self appears many to those whose sight is confused. Whatever there is here is one, the imperishable Lord; there is nothing other than he. He is I, and you, and all this. Give up the delusion of difference. And the king gave up the sense of difference and saw the highest truth.
