Vāk Āmbhṛṇī

The tenth book of the Ṛgveda, the Veda of sacred hymns, keeps a hymn spoken in the voice of Vāk, Speech herself: I am the queen, the gatherer of riches, the first of those worthy of worship. The old index of the Ṛgveda's seers names the seer of this hymn as Vāk, the daughter of Ambhṛṇa; the Ṛgveda itself tells nothing of her. In the hymn Speech says that she moves with all the gods and bears them, that through her every creature eats and breathes and hears, and that whom she loves she makes a brahman, a priest of the sacred word, and a seer.
