The Daughter of Ambhṛṇa

The seers of the Ṛgveda were remembered by name, hymn by hymn, in an old index. It names the seer of the hymn that begins, I move with the Rudras and the Vasus, as Vāk, the daughter of Ambhṛṇa. Vāk means speech, and the one who speaks throughout the hymn is Speech herself. So the seer whom the index names bears the name of the one who speaks in the hymn, and of that seer the Ṛgveda itself tells nothing.
