In plain words

The poet, longing for Vēṅkaṭam: I cry out to see the Lord of Tiruvēṅkaṭam. I draw the sacred kūṭal circle [circles drawn to foretell whether a wish will come true] to learn whether I shall reach his mountain, where in the rains the great cascades come down sweeping gems along, so that the elephants take fright [taking the gems' splendour for fire] and the pythons shrink away into hiding [taking it for lightning].
