In plain words

The poet, to the Lord: O Lord of all, opposed to all that is base! You are the self-luminous one beyond the vast primal matter; the soul, shining with knowledge, is your body; you shine in a radiance beyond the reach of the Veda. Joined with auspicious qualities beyond counting, you went begging [to Mahābali] as a boy-student and measured the earth: who can take the measure of you, and of the way you did it?
