In plain words
The poet, to those who take other gods as refuge: O ignorant ones, who take as your refuge, and live by, gods [Brahmā, Rudra and the rest] whose forms are hideous to see, whose stories are harsh to the ear, and who have no power to grant a boon even when they are served! Cherish our First Cause: will you not then be able to cut away the thicket called your birth?
