सुप्तौ यथा निर्विकारस्तथावस्थाद्वयेऽपि च ।द्वयोर्मात्राभियोगेन विकारीव विभाम्यहम् ॥ ४० ॥

In deep sleep I am utterly without change — and in the other two states I am no different. It is only the pressing of their portions upon me that makes me shine as though I changed.

Just as in deep sleep [I am] free of modification, so also in the pair of states; by the conjunction of the measures of those two, I shine forth as if a changing thing.
