The works of Ādi Śaṅkarācārya

Advaitānubhūtiḥ

Verse 43

उपाधिनीलरक्ताद्यैः स्फटिको नैव लिप्यते ।तथात्मा कोशजैः सर्वैः कामाद्यैर्नैव लिप्यते ॥ ४१ ॥

In plain words

Set a crystal beside something blue, something red, any colour you like: the crystal is not stained by it, not in the least. So it is with the Self. Everything the sheaths give rise to — desire and all the rest of it — leaves no mark. Not in the least.

Close to the Sanskrit

By the adjuncts — blue, red and the rest — the crystal is indeed not stained. Likewise the Self, by all those born of the sheaths — desire and the rest — is indeed not stained.
