The works of Ādi Śaṅkarācārya

Advaitānubhūtiḥ

Verse 57

In plain words

If a reflection trembles, the original does not tremble with it. In the same way, doership and the changing qualities attributed to reflected consciousness never touch the Self itself.

Close to the Sanskrit

Just as movement and similar properties of a reflection never belong to the original image, so doership and the other properties of the reflected appearance do not belong to the Self.
