। ॥ १७ ॥
In plain words
His mind turns by nature to the unmaking of every universe, leaving none. He sits in the burning grounds. Ash is smeared over him. This is Paśupati — and he took the hālāhala poison and held it in his throat, out of pity for the whole round earth. O Kalyāṇī, I reckon that is what came of his being joined with you.
Close to the Sanskrit
He whose mind is by nature bent upon the rite of dissolving all the universes without remainder, seated in the cremation grounds, having ash smeared upon him — Paśupati — held the hālāhala poison in his throat out of compassion for the entire earth-globe; and this, O Kalyāṇī, I reckon to be the fruit of union with you.
