The works of Ādi Śaṅkarācārya

Aparokṣānubhūtiḥ

Verse 32

In plain words

I am the one who sees; the body is something seen. We naturally say, ‘this body is mine.’ How, then, could what is possessed and observed be the Self who knows it?

Close to the Sanskrit

I am established as the seer, while the body stands as the seen. Since one says, ‘this is my body,’ how could the body itself be the conscious person?
