The works of Ādi Śaṅkarācārya

Aparokṣānubhūtiḥ

Verse 37

In plain words

Right there the scriptures declare it plainly: the Self shines by its own light. So how could this body — inert, needing something else just to light it up — ever be mistaken for the real you?

Close to the Sanskrit

And there indeed the Person (Puruṣa) is declared to be self-luminous. How could this one — inert, to-be-illumined-by-another, [merely] a body — be [that true] Person?
