The works of Ādi Śaṅkarācārya

Aparokṣānubhūtiḥ

Verse 5

नित्यमात्मस्वरूपं हि दृश्यं तद्विपरीतगम् ।एवं यो निश्चयः सम्यग्विवेको वस्तुनः स वै ॥ ५ ॥

In plain words

The Self's own nature is eternal. Everything you can see is the exact opposite of that. When you have settled this, and it no longer wavers in you — that, and nothing else, is real viveka: the discrimination of what actually is.

Close to the Sanskrit

Eternal, indeed, is the essential nature of the Self; the seen is of the character opposite to that. Thus, that which is a firm ascertainment — that indeed is right discrimination of Reality.
