The works of Ādi Śaṅkarācārya

Aparokṣānubhūtiḥ

Verse 61

In plain words

The sky is not blue. There is no water on that stretch of desert. The tree-stump is not a man. In exactly that way, the universe in the Self that is pure consciousness.

Close to the Sanskrit

Just as blueness in the sky, just as water in a desert place, just as man-ness in a tree-stump — in that same way, the universe in the Self that is consciousness.
