You know how a person can suddenly lose their bearings and take north for south — nothing has moved, the mind has simply clouded over. It works exactly like that: joined to ignorance, someone looks at the Ātman and sees a body.

Just as, precisely, a reversal of directions occurs for someone out of delusion, in that same way one sees body-ness in the Self through association with ignorance.
