The works of Ādi Śaṅkarācārya

Aparokṣānubhūtiḥ

Verse 86

In plain words

Look at the moon on moving water: it seems to shake, and to the one watching, it is the moon that shakes. In just the same way, through contact with ajñāna, a person sees bodyhood in the Self.

Close to the Sanskrit

Just as the moon appears in water, with trembling, to someone; in the same way, in the Self one sees bodyhood, through association with ignorance.
