रागेच्छासुखदुःखादि बुद्धौ सत्यां प्रवर्तते ।सुषुप्तौ नास्ति तन्नाशे तस्माद्बुद्धेस्तु नात्मनः ॥ २३ ॥

Attraction, wanting, pleasure, pain — all of it starts up only while the intellect is running. In deep sleep the intellect dissolves and none of it is there. So all of it belongs to the intellect. None of it belongs to the ātman.

Attachment, desire, pleasure, pain and the rest set themselves in motion when the intellect is present; in deep sleep, when that has dissolved, they do not exist. Therefore they are of the intellect, not of the Self.
