न्द्रलोका ओताश्च प्रोताश्चेति प्रजाप-तिलोकेषु गार्गीति कस्मिन्नु खलु प्रजा-पतिलोका ओताश्च प्रोताश्चेति ब्रह्म-लोकेषु गार्गीति कस्मिन्नु खलु ब्रह्मलो-का ओताश्च प्रोताश्चेति स होवाचगार्गि मातिप्राक्षीर्मा ते मूर्धा व्यपप्तदन्-तिप्रश्न्यां वै देवतामतिपृच्छसि गार्गिमातिप्राक्षीरिति ततो ह गार्गी वाचक्न-व्युपरराम ॥ १ ॥

'And those -- what are the worlds of brahman woven into?' Here he stopped her: 'Gargi, don't push this question any further -- your head will fall off. You are asking about a deity that cannot be asked about past this point, Gargi. Don't push it further.' And at that, Gargi, daughter of Vacaknu, fell silent.
