कतमे वसव इत्याग्निश्च पृथिवी च वा-युश्चान्तरिक्षं चादित्यश्च द्यौश्च चन्द्रमाश्चनक्षत्राणि चैते वसव एतेषु हीदँ सर्वँ हितमिति तस्माद्वसव इति ॥ ३ ॥
In plain words
‘And which are the Vasus?’ Fire, Earth, Wind, the space between, the Sun, the Sky, the Moon, and the stars — these eight are the Vasus. Because everything in this world is lodged, deposited, held within them, that is why they are called Vasus, the ‘dwelling-places.’
