In plain words
A golden bowl covers the face of truth. Pūṣan, lift it — let the one whose whole life is truth finally see. Pūṣan, sole seer, Yama, Sūrya, child of Prajāpati — spread your rays wide, draw back your blinding light, so I can see your form at its most beautiful. And when I see it, I see this: that person there is who I am. Let this breath return to the deathless air; let this body end, as it must, in ash. Oṃ. Mind, remember. Remember what you have done. Mind, remember. Remember what you have done. Agni, walk ahead of us on the good road toward what is truly good — you know every path we have taken. Clear away the crooked wrong in us. We offer you our fullest words of homage.
Close to the Sanskrit
By a golden vessel the face of truth is covered. That, O Pūṣan, uncover, for one whose duty is truth, for the sake of seeing [it]. O Pūṣan, sole seer, Yama, Sūrya, son of Prajāpati, spread out your rays, gather in your brilliance. That form of yours which is most auspicious, that I see: that person who is yonder, he am I. [May] the vital breath [go] to the immortal air; then this body ends in ash. Oṃ. O will, remember; remember what has been done. O will, remember; remember what has been done. O Agni, lead us by a good path to prosperity, O god who knows all our ways. Remove from us the crooked sin; we would offer you the utmost utterance of homage.
