देवा ह वै प्रजापतिमब्रुवन्नानुष्टुभस्य मन्त्रराजस्य नारसिंहस्य शक्तिं बीजं च नो ब्रूहि भगव इति स होवाच प्रजापतिर्माया वा एषा नारसिंही सर्वमिदं सृजति सर्वमिदं रक्षति सर्वमिदं संहरति तस्मान्मायामेतां शक्तिं विद्याद्य एतां मायां शक्तिं वेद स पाप्मानं तरति स संसारं तरति स मृत्युं तरति सोऽमृतत्वं च गच्छति महतीं श्रियमश्नुते मीमांसन्ते ब्रह्मवादिनो ह्रस्वा वा दी-

In plain words

The gods came to Prajāpati and said, 'Lord, tell us the power-syllable and the seed-syllable of the Anuṣṭubh, the king of all mantras — the Nārasiṃha mantra.' And Prajāpati answered: 'This is the very Māyā of the Man-Lion. It creates this whole universe, it protects this whole universe, it draws this whole universe back into itself. So know this Māyā as its power. Whoever knows this Māyā as power crosses beyond evil, crosses beyond the wheel of rebirth, crosses beyond death itself, reaches immortality, and comes into great abundance.' Now the knowers of Brahman take up the question: is the syllable short, or...' — and there the page breaks off.

The gods said to Prajāpati: 'Tell us, O Lord, the power-syllable and the seed-syllable of the Anuṣṭubh, the king of mantras, the Nārasiṃha [mantra].' He, Prajāpati, then said: 'This, indeed, is the Māyā called Nārasiṃhī — it creates all this, it protects all this, it withdraws all this. Therefore one should know this Māyā as [its] power-syllable. Whoever knows this Māyā as [its] power-syllable crosses beyond evil, crosses beyond the round of rebirth, crosses beyond death, and attains immortality, [and] enjoys great prosperity.
