यो वै स संवत्सरः प्रजापतिः षोडश-कलोऽयमेव स योऽयमेवंवित्पुरुषस्तस्यवित्तमेव पञ्चदश कला आत्मैवास्य षो-डशी कला स वित्तेनैवा च पूर्यतेऽप चक्षीयते तदेतन्नभ्यं यदयमात्मा प्रधिर्वि-त्तं तस्माद्यद्यपि सर्वज्यानिं जीयत आ-त्मना चेज्जीवति प्रधिनागादित्येवाहुः ॥
In plain words
That very year which is the creator-prajapati of sixteen parts—this same person who knows this truth finds that his wealth constitutes his fifteen variable digits, while his own inner self is the sixteenth, constant digit. Through his wealth alone he waxes and wanes. As the wheel's central hub corresponds to the embodied self, the outer rim corresponds to wealth. Therefore, people say of someone who has suffered total ruin of all his possessions: 'He has lost his rim, but he survives because he still has his self.'

Who indeed that year-prajapati is sixteen-parted, this same one who is this person who knows thus, his wealth alone is the fifteen parts, the self alone is his sixteenth part. He is filled up by wealth alone and wanes. That is the navel-hub which is this self, the rim is wealth. Therefore even though one is conquered with total loss, if he lives by the self, they say 'he has gone with the rim.'
