स होवाच गार्ग्यो य एवायमात्मनिपुरुष एतमेवाहं ब्रह्मोपास इति स हो-वाचाजातशत्रुर्मा मैतस्मिन्संवदिष्ठा आ-त्मन्वीति वा अहमेतमुपास इति स यएतमेवमुपास्ते आत्मन्वी ह भवत्यात्म-न्विनी हास्य प्रजा भवति स ह तूष्णी-मास गार्ग्यः ॥ १३ ॥
In plain words
Gārgya said: 'The person who is in the self—this very one I worship as Brahman.' Ajātaśatru answered: 'Do not speak to me about him. I worship him precisely as the possessor of the self.' Whoever meditates on him in this way becomes possessed of the self, and his descendants too become possessed of the self. Thereupon Gārgya fell silent.
Close to the Sanskrit
He spoke: 'The person who is this in the self, this very one I worship as Brahman.' Ajātaśatru spoke to him: 'Do not converse with me about this. As possessing the self indeed I worship this.' Whoever worships this thus, becomes one possessing the self, and his progeny becomes possessing the self. Gārgya remained silent.
