In plain words
This is what he looks like, this being: like saffron cloth, like pale wool, like the flame-red insect, like a tongue of fire, like a white lotus, like a single flash of lightning. And a glory like that lightning-flash comes to anyone who knows this. So the only way to point to him is: not this, not this. Nothing beyond this is truer to say. And his name is this: the truth behind the truth. The breath of life is the truth we know — and he is the truth within that truth.
Close to the Sanskrit
Now, of that same person, this is the form: as saffron-dyed cloth, as pale wool, as the indragopa insect, as the flame of fire, as the white lotus, as a sudden flash of lightning — like a flash of lightning, indeed, does glory come to him who thus knows. Now therefore the teaching: 'not this, not this' — for other than this there is nothing higher, hence 'not this.' Now the name: 'the truth of the truth.' The vital breaths, verily, are the truth; he is the truth of them.
