Verse 89

सा होवाच मैत्रेयी ।यन्नु म इयं भ-गोः सर्वा पृथिवी वित्तेन पूर्णा स्यात्कथंतेनामृता स्यामिति नेति होवाच याज्ञव-ल्क्यो यथैवोपकरणवतां जीवितं तथैवते जीवितं स्यादमृतत्वस्य तु नाशास्तिवित्तेनेति ॥ २ ॥

In plain words

Maitreyī said, "Suppose this whole earth, filled with riches, were mine — would that make me immortal?" "No," Yājñavalkya answered. "You would simply live the way wealthy people live. Wealth holds no promise of immortality."

She, Maitreyī, said: "If, sir, this whole earth, full of wealth, were mine, would I thereby become immortal?" "No," said Yājñavalkya, "your life would be just like the life of those who possess means; but there is no hope of immortality through wealth."
