ते ह वाचमूचुस्त्वं न उद्गायेति तथेति तेभ्यो वागुदगायत् ।यो वाचि भोगस्तं देवेभ्य आगायद्यत्कल्याणं वदति तदात्मने ।ते विदुरनेन वै न उद्गात्रात्येष्यन्तीति तमभिद्रुत्य पाप्मनाविध्यन्स यः स पाप्मा यदेवेदमप्रतिरूपं वदति स एव स पाप्मा ॥ २ ॥
In plain words
The gods said to Speech, 'Chant the Udgitha for us.' 'So be it,' she replied, and chanted for them. Whatever sweetness and enjoyment reside in speech, she secured for the gods through her song, while whatever is auspicious she kept for herself. Realizing that the gods would overcome them through this chanter, the demons rushed upon her and pierced her with evil. And what is that evil? Whenever someone utters unseemly, improper words—that very utterance is that evil.

They said to speech, 'You sing out for us.' 'So be it,' and speech chanted for them. Whatever enjoyment is in speech, that she chanted for the gods; what is auspicious, she speaks for herself. They knew, 'Indeed by this chanter they will surpass us.' Having rushed upon her, they pierced her with evil. That which is that evil—whatever improper thing this person speaks, that indeed is that evil.
