In plain words
Here is how it is. From a fire laid with damp wood, clouds of smoke rise up on every side. In just the same way, dear one, everything that has ever been breathed out from this vast Being — the Ṛgveda, the Yajurveda, the Sāmaveda, the hymns of Atharvan and Aṅgiras, the old epics, the ancient lore, the sacred sciences, the Upaniṣads, the verses, the aphorisms, the explanations, the commentaries — all of it is nothing but its own breath.
Close to the Sanskrit
It is like this: as, from a fire laid [with damp fuel], clouds of smoke issue forth separately, so indeed, O [Maitreyī], this is the breath of this great Being — namely, the Ṛgveda, the Yajurveda, the Sāmaveda, the Atharvāṅgirasa, the Itihāsa, the Purāṇa, the Vidyā, the Upaniṣads, the verses, the aphorisms, the explanatory glosses, the commentaries — of this alone are all these the breath.
