अथेदानीं रूपाणां सितासितप्रभृतीनाम्-चक्षुरिति चक्षु-र्विषयसामान्यं चक्षुःशब्दाभिधेयं रूपसामान्यं प्रकाश्यमा-त्रमभिधीयते ।अतो हि सर्वाणि रूपाण्युत्तिष्ठन्ति, एतदेषांसाम, एतद्धि सर्वै रूपैः समम्, एतदेषां ब्रह्म, एतद्धि स-र्वाणि रूपाणि बिभर्ति ॥

Now, concerning forms such as white and dark: 'the eye' is spoken of as the common ground of all visual objects named by that word—which is simply that which is brought to light. For from it all forms arise; it is their harmony, for it matches every form equally. It is their vast reality, for it sustains them all.

Now then, of forms such as white and black, 'the eye'—meaning the general commonality of visual objects signified by the word 'eye', which is merely what is illuminated—is spoken of. For from this all forms arise; this is their sama; for this is equal with all forms; this is their brahman; for this verily supports all forms.
