न्यविषयपरिकल्पनायां तु यावज्जीवविधानश्रुतिः स्वविषया-त्संकोचिता स्यात्; क्रमप्रतिपत्तेस्तु विश्वजित्सर्वमेधविषय-त्वात् न कश्चिद्विरोधः ॥

But if you assign the 'as long as you live' rule some different, narrower scope, you end up shrinking an injunction that was never meant to be shrunk. Take it instead as part of a proper sequence — remember, rites like the Viśvajit and Sarvamedha already have their own place — and no contradiction remains at all.

But on the supposition of a different scope [for the yāvajjīva texts], the scriptural injunction 'as long as one lives' would be curtailed from its own proper domain. Whereas, on the position of taking the rites in their due sequence, since the Viśvajit and Sarvamedha sacrifices have their own scope, there is no contradiction at all.
