There are three branches of sacred duty: sacrifice, scriptural study, and charity form the first; austerity alone forms the second; and the celibate student who lives in the teacher's house, wearing out his life entirely within that household, forms the third. All of these attain meritorious worlds. But he who is firmly established in Brahman attains immortality.
