नैवैतेन सुरभि न दुर्गन्धि विजानात्य-पह्तपाप्मा ह्येष तेन यदश्नाति यत्पिब-ति तेनेतरान्प्राणानवति एतमु एवान्त-तोऽवित्त्वोत्क्रामति व्याददात्येवान्तत इ-ति ॥ ९ ॥

Nor does one perceive fragrance or foul odor through this primary breath, for it is untouched by evil. By means of the food and drink one consumes, it sustains the other vital powers. Sustaining them to the very end, it departs, opening the mouth wide at the final hour.

Not indeed by this does one know what is fragrant nor what is foul-smelling; for this one is free from evil. By that which one eats and drinks, with that he protects the other breaths. This very one, having protected them at the end, departs; he opens wide at the very end, thus.
