अथाधिदैवत य एवासौ तपति तमु-द्गीथमुपासीतोद्यन्वा एष प्रजाभ्य उद्गा-यति ।उद्यन्तमस्तमो भयमपहन्त्यपहन्ताह वै भयस्य तमसो भवति य एववेद ॥ १ ॥

Now in the context of the cosmic deities: one should meditate upon that sun which shines as the Udgitha. As he rises, he chants for the well-being of all creatures, driving away darkness and fear. Whoever knows him thus truly becomes a destroyer of fear and darkness.

Now concerning the deities: that which is this sun shining, one should meditate on him as the Udgitha. For rising, this one chants for creatures. Rising, he destroys darkness and fear. A destroyer of fear and darkness truly becomes he who knows thus.
