Chāndogyopaniṣadbhāṣyam

Verse 21

In plain words

Now, let a person meditate on Vyāna alone as the Udgītha. That which moves outward is Prāna; that which moves inward is Apāna. The junction where Prāna and Apāna meet is Vyāna; and that Vyāna is speech itself. Therefore, without actively moving either Prāna or Apāna, one utters speech.

Now indeed one should meditate upon Vyana alone as the Udgitha. That which breathes forth is Prana; that which breathes down is Apana. Now that which is the junction of Prana and Apana is Vyana; that which is Vyana is Speech. Therefore, without breathing forth and without breathing down, one utters speech.
