Then, when the chief vital breath intended to depart, just as a spirited horse pulls up the pegs of its foot-tethers, so did it dislodge all the other breaths. Gathering around him, they cried out: 'Remain, O revered one! You are the greatest among us. Do not depart!'

Then indeed when the prāna desired to depart upward, just as a fine horse would tear up the tethering pegs, so it shook the other prāṇas. They, approaching him together, said: 'Revered one, remain; you are our most excellent, do not depart.'
