Verse 303

स ह पञ्चदशाहानि नाशाथ हैनमुप-ससाद किं ब्रवीमि भो इत्यृचः सोम्ययजूंषि सामानीति स होवाच न वै माप्रतिभान्ति भो इति ॥ २ ॥

In plain words

After fasting for fifteen days, he went to his father and asked, 'What shall I recite, sir?' His father replied, 'The Ṛg, Yajur, and Sāma Vedas, my dear.' But he answered, 'None of them come to my mind at all, sir.'

Close to the Sanskrit

He indeed for fifteen days having fasted, approached him, saying 'What shall I speak, O sir?' The Ṛk verses, O gentle one, the Yajus formulas, the Sāma chants. He indeed said, 'Not truly do they shine forth to me, O sir.'
