In plain words
The dream-self is not slain when the body is slain, nor does it become lame when the body is lame. Yet, it is as if they strike him, as if they chase him, as if he suffers pain and even weeps. Indra said, 'I see no real value in this state.' Prajapati replied, 'It is exactly as you say, Indra. I will explain this Self further to you. Live here as a student for another thirty-two years.' Indra lived there for another thirty-two years, and then Prajapati spoke to him.
Close to the Sanskrit
By the killing of this (body), he (the dream-self) is not killed; by its lameness, he does not become lame. But they do indeed slay him, as it were; they chase him away, as it were; he becomes, as it were, an experiencer of the unpleasant; he even weeps, as it were. 'I do not see any good here,' (said Indra). 'It is indeed so, O Maghavan,' (Prajapati) said. 'I will explain this very Self further to you. Dwell for another thirty-two years.' He dwelt for another thirty-two years. To him, (Prajapati) spoke.
