In plain words

Indra returned once more, carrying fuel in his hands like a humble student. Prajāpati asked him, 'O Indra, since you left satisfied and at peace, what brings you back?' Indra replied, 'Holy teacher, in deep sleep a person does not know himself as "I am this," nor does he recognize any other living being. He is as good as lost in utter oblivion. I see no value in such a state.'

He, with sacrificial fuel in hand, came back again. To him Prajāpati said: 'O Maghavan, since you went away with a peaceful heart, desiring what have you returned?' He said: 'O venerable one, indeed this one now does not know himself thus as "this I am", nor indeed does he know these beings. He becomes gone into destruction itself. I do not see any object of enjoyment here.'
