Verse 55

त५ ह प्रवाहणो जैवलिरुवाचान्तवद्वैकिल ते शालावत्य साम यस्त्वेतर्हि ब्रू-यान्मूर्धा ते विपतिष्यतीति मूर्धा ते विपतेदिति हन्ताहमेतद्भगवत्तो वेदानीतिविद्धीति होवाच ॥ ८ ॥

In plain words

Pravāhaṇa Jaivali said to him: 'Śālāvatsya, your Sāman is finite indeed. If someone were to tell you right now, "Your head is going to fall off," your head would indeed split apart.' [Śālāvatsya replied,] 'Ah, I wish to learn this very truth from Your Majesty.' [The king] said, 'Come, learn it.'

Him indeed Pravahaṇa Jaivali said: Finite truly indeed, O Śālāvatsya, is your Sāman; whoever at this time might tell you 'your head will fall off', your head would split apart. 'Well, I wish to know this from the venerable one.' 'Know it', he said.
