पृष्ट अन्नमिति होवाच ।सर्वाणि ह वा इमानि भूता-न्यन्नमेव आत्मन प्रति सर्वत प्रतिहरमाणानि जीवन्ति ।सैषा देवता प्रतिशब्दसामान्यात्प्रतिहारभक्तिमनुगता ।समा-नमन्यत्तथोक्तस्य मयेति ।प्रस्तावोद्गीथप्रतिहारभक्ती प्राणा-दित्यान्नदृष्ट्योपासीतेति समुदायार्थ ।प्राणाद्यापत्ति कर्म-समृद्धिर्वा फलमिति ॥

When asked about food, he replied: All these beings draw in sustenance from every side to live. Because its name resembles it, this deity mirrors the pratihāra chant. The rest follows what I have already explained. The prastāva, udgītha, and pratihāra parts are to be meditated upon as prāna, the sun, and food—that is the summary. The fruit of this is either attaining those cosmic forces or the fulfillment of the ritual.

Inquired about as food, he said: All these beings indeed draw food towards themselves from all sides and live. This same deity, due to the similarity of the word, is conformed to the pratihāra division. The rest is similar to what was spoken by me. The prastāva, udgītha, and pratihāra divisions should be meditated upon with the view of prāna, sun, and food—this is the combined import. The result is the attainment of prāna and others or the perfection of the rite.
