The works of Ādi Śaṅkarācārya

Dakṣiṇāmūrtistotram

Verse 15

In plain words

There may be countless deities in this world, but my heart rests in none of them as it rests here. The south-facing Lord alone—wholly given to showering grace on minds still clouded—is the deity I cherish.

Close to the Sanskrit

Many deities indeed exist upon the earth, but those are not approved by my mind. The south-facing deity alone, wholly committed to bestowing grace upon those of dull understanding, is my deity.
