। ॥ ८ ॥

In plain words

He sets down the curds, the ghee, the whole apparatus of offering — every rite, none kept back — and with it the longing for what those rites might pay him here. Then the brāhmaṇa, god upon this earth, wanting one fruit only, his own real nature, takes up the asking. And the one he is asking after is the inward-facing Self, the face turned south. That is who I hold in my mind.

Close to the Sanskrit

Having abandoned all the acts whose materials are curds, ghee and the rest, [and having abandoned] here the longing for the fruits of actions, the god-upon-earth, seeking the fruit that is his own true nature, undertakes inquiry into whom — him, the inward-facing one, the south-facing face, I hold in my mind.
