In plain words
In his hand, held with delight, a modaka — and always, he is the one who brings liberation about. The crescent moon rides in his crown as an ornament; he is the guardian of a world at play. For everyone with no one to lead them, he is the one leader; he is the one who destroyed the elephant-demon. For those who bow to him, he is the swift end of everything inauspicious. To that Vināyaka I bow.
Close to the Sanskrit
Him whose modaka is joyfully taken into his hand, ever the accomplisher of liberation; him who wears the crescent-bearing moon as his crest-ornament, the protector of the world at play; him who is the one leader of the leaderless, by whom the elephant-demon was destroyed; him who is the swift destroyer of the inauspiciousness of those who bow — to that Vināyaka I bow.
