Govindāṣṭakam

Verse 7

In plain words

The beloved one: the cause behind every cause, the beginning that no beginning made, glowing dark as a cloud heavy with rain. On the raised hood of Kāliya, deep in the Yamunā, he dances — again, again, without letting up. He is Time, and he stands outside every measure of time; everything there is rests in him, nothing left over. He breaks the sickness of this quarrelling age, and past, present and future move only because he moves them. Bow to Govinda, the highest bliss.

Close to the Sanskrit

Him who is beloved, the cause of causes, the beginning and yet beginningless, whose appearance shines like a dark rain cloud; dancing beautifully, again and again and without limit, upon the head of Kāliya who dwelt in the Kālindī; Time itself, gone beyond all divisions of time, in whom everything without remainder is held, destroyer of the faults of the Kali age, the cause of the movement of the three times — bow to Govinda, the supreme bliss.
