The works of Ādi Śaṅkarācārya

Haristutiḥ

Verse 40

In plain words

All of this looks real — and it goes on looking real for exactly as long as you have not yet seen, within yourself, the one who knows: I am That. The moment he is seen, none of this is real any longer. Hari, the ending of the darkness that is saṃsāra — him I praise.

Close to the Sanskrit

Only so long does all this, which is here, shine as if real, as long as that knower in the self — 'I am He' — is indeed not seen; and when he is seen, all this becomes unreal. Him, the destruction of the darkness of saṃsāra, Hari, I praise.
