In plain words
Here it is established: true realization dawns only while a person is alive, never after death, for the preparatory disciplines of self-control, hearing, and reflection cannot be practiced by a corpse. This is why the scriptures record the formal renunciation of illumined sages like Yajnavalkya—whereas the renunciation of a dead person is neither spoken of nor possible. Therefore, realization belongs strictly to the living. That freedom is attained solely through knowledge of the Self is confirmed by such scriptural declarations as: 'Whoever truly knows that supreme Brahman becomes Brahman itself,' and 'The knower of Brahman attains the supreme.'

Here it is stated: Knowledge of the truth arises indeed in a living person, never in a dead one, because the disciplines of mind and sense control and the hearing and reflecting which are the causes of knowledge are impossible for a corpse. Hence indeed the renunciation of illumined ones such as Yajnavalkya is heard of in scripture. Nor is the renunciation of a dead person heard of or even possible. Therefore it is established that knowledge of the truth arises in a living person. Liberation is established as taking place solely from knowledge of the Self, in accordance with such Vedic passages as: 'He who indeed knows that supreme Brahman becomes Brahman itself', and 'The knower of Brahman attains the supreme.'
