In plain words
Garlands, sandal paste, the bodies of women, and all the rest of it — you decided these give pleasure, and off you went to play among them. They are gandhaphalī flowers, surely you know: sweet at the first breath, and the ache begins the instant the enjoying stops. Bee of the mind, you are circling a desert. Worldly becoming has no sap left in it. Go to this instead, go to this — the nectar inside the lotus of Lakṣmī-Narasiṃha's spotless feet.
Close to the Sanskrit
Having thought garlands, sandal paste, women and the rest — objects of sense — to be givers of pleasure, you sport among them. Surely these of yours are like the gandhaphalī blossom: they are makers of pain in the very moment after enjoyment. O bee of the mind, you wander in vain over the sapless desert-land of worldly becoming. Resort to it, resort to it — the nectar of the lotus of the spotless feet of Lakṣmī-Narasiṃha.
