इति हयमुखगीतं स्तोत्रराजं निशम्यप्रगलितकलुषोऽभूचित्तपर्याप्तिमेत्य ।निजगुरुमथ नत्वा कुम्भजन्मा तदुक्तंपुनरधिकरहस्यं ज्ञातुमेवं जगाद ॥ ५ ॥अगस्त्य उवाच-अश्वानन महाभाग रहस्यमपि मे वद ।शिववर्णानि कान्यत्र शक्तिवर्णानि कानि हि ॥उभयोरपि वर्णानि कानि वा वद देशिक ।इति पृष्ट कुम्भजेन हयग्रीवोऽवदत्पुनः ॥ ७ ॥तव गोप्य किमस्तीय साक्षादम्बानुशासनात् ।इदं त्वतिरहस्यं ते वक्ष्यामि शृणु कुम्भज ।एतद्विज्ञानमात्रेण श्रीविद्या सिद्धिदा भवेत् ।कत्रय हद्वय चैव शैवो भागः प्रकीर्तितः ॥ ९ ॥शक्त्यक्षराणि शेषाणि हींकार उभयात्मकः ।एव विभागमज्ञात्वा ये विद्याजपशालिनः ॥

After listening to this supreme king of hymns sung by the horse-headed Lord, the jar-born sage Agastya felt his mind fill with profound contentment as all his inner impurities dissolved. Bowing deeply before his spiritual preceptor, he spoke once more, eager to understand the deeper mysteries. Agastya said: 'O illustrious horse-faced Lord, please reveal this secret to me. Which syllables in this mantra belong to Shiva, and which belong to Shakti? And which syllables belong to both? Please tell me, O master!' Questioned thus by the sage, Hayagriva replied: 'By the direct command of the Divine Mother, there is nothing that should be hidden from you. Yet this is an extremely profound secret that I am about to reveal; listen closely, O Agastya. By the mere experiential understanding of this division, the sacred Sri Vidya becomes the bestower of all spiritual fulfillment. The three syllables Ka and the two syllables Ha are traditionally declared to be the portion of Shiva. The remaining syllables belong to Shakti, while the sacred seed-syllable Hrim embodies the essence of both. Those who chant this mantra without understanding this inner division...'

Having heard the king of hymns sung by the horse-faced one, having attained complete satisfaction of mind with his impurities dissolved, having bowed to his own guru, the pot-born one (Agastya) spoke thus again to know the further secret. Agastya said: 'O horse-faced one, highly fortunate, speak to me even the secret. Which are the letters of Shiva here, and which are the letters of Shakti? Or which are the letters of both, speak, O preceptor!' Being thus asked by the pot-born one, Hayagriva spoke again: 'What is there to be hidden from you, directly due to the command of the Mother? However, I shall speak this supreme secret to you, listen, O pot-born one! By the mere knowledge of this, Sri Vidya becomes the bestower of success. The three Ka's and the two Ha's indeed are declared as the Shiva portion. The remaining are the Shakti letters, and the syllable Hrim is of the nature of both. Thus, without knowing this division, those who are engaged in the repetition of the Vidya...'
